Snapshot 2012 - #12 Comfort Foods

Snapshot #12 is about comfort foods, or holiday foods. I’ve scrapped the traditional holiday recipes we use before, so I went with a general page listing the ones we usually pick from when planning the big holiday meals.

Snapshot2012-12comfortfoods
journaling: If it is a major holiday meal such as Easter, Thanksgiving or Christmas, then usually our traditional favorites will be making an appearance on the table. These are dishes typically made from scratch using old family recipes. We are open to trying out new recipes with the old, and occasionally one of the new ones will make its way onto the permanent list of things we choose from when planning a holiday meal. For example, Potatoes Romanoff is a recipe that Mark and I tried when we were dating and everyone liked it so much that now we usually make it instead of plain mashed potatoes.

More Summertime 2011

Yep, still plugging along on the summer staycation album, from last year. I got another coupon for a free album to use, I can get this all printed up neatly in a bound book like I had planned if I just keep plugging along and “get ‘er done” before that coupon expires too.

Prompt 5- craftsSummer2011-05crafty journaling: The girls are always up for crafting. American Girl sewing and paper flower sets and Purler beads were just what was called for to chase away the summer blahs for a few days.

Prompt 9- food, try a new recipeSummer2011-9Pancakes
journaling: Sarah had been asking for pancakes for dinner for days when I saw a link to this recipe for Cinnamon Roll Pancakes on a scrapbooking blog I read. I had all of the ingredients needed in the pantry and enough time that evening to have fun and try it out. They were delicious and filling. We will definitely make these again in the future!

Prompt 11- Day Trip. We went to a small family-owned soda shop that is on the other side of our city. We actually went twice, we loved it so much! Summer11-11Squeak journaling: I’d heard about this fun soda shop a year ago, but we didn’t have a chance to go that summer. After one of our visits to see Grandma at the rehab center I took the kids for a surprise stop to Squeak. We all fell instantly in love with this fun place filled with fizzy goodness. We picked games to play while we sipped our handmade sodas. Carissa found a Harry Potter trivia game on their shelf and that became another instant hit. We love fizzy living!

Prompt 13 – Nature Walk
Posts on FB from my cousin Jamie alerted me to the fact that they were going to be in CO for a week, so we arranged to meet them one morning at The Garden of the Gods for a visit.

Summer2011-13NatureWalk
journaling: The Tap 4 dance is to Brenna’s favorite song from the Shake It Up album, School’s Out!  She even did it as a solo in her 3rd Grade classes’ talent show at the end of year.
