Latest LOs

There hasn’t been a whole lot of time for scrapping, or I just haven’t felt like it when I did have a few minutes. I started reading the Percy Jackson and the Olympians book series, and I got a bit sucked into them OK, that is a bit of an understatement- I’ll admit it :P I ended up ordering books 2-5 from Amazon (I had bought Bryce #1 at a school book fair a couple of years ago, so we already had that one), and I went through them all in about a week once they finally arrived. I must take the kids to see the movie now!

The DEA dance competition in Denver is this coming weekend, and I have to get everything together for that. We are planning a little trip over spring break too and trying to get everything ready to go for that too on top of it. I think it is going to be a crazy week! It will be nice to have this first competition behind us finally.

These are the miscellaneous LOs from the last couple of weeks.

journaling: Grandma Doris was a professional seamstress and had a magical touch with fabric and thread. She sewed all of her own clothes, as well as many of the items that her children and grandchildren wore and played with.Quilts, doilies and household items were also crafted with her hands to make home a more beautiful place. Dianne Rigdon came out with a cute kit called ‘Little Buddies’ and it has some adorable little animals in it that reminded me of all of the stuffed friends we have in our house. So, I gathered up all of Sarah’s friends, took a picture of them, and then had Sarah tell me what each of their names are. She thought the whole process was neat ;) Now I will have something to refer to if I can’t remember someone’s proper name LOL! EasterEggHunt_4-11-09 journaling: In typical Colorado Style, it was too wet to have the egg hunt outside so it was held inside the church again this year. Beth and Carissa brought their friend Alyssa for their last year of egg hunting. As usual, we ended up with lots and lots of eggs, which meant bringing home lots of easter candy. The telling of the Easter resurrection story always ends the fun.

One of the SBG designers, Phuong Ton, has announced that she will be stepping down from designing for a while. The Crew did a farewell playday today for her, and this is what I came up with for it. Sure makes me wish I had explored her kits a bit more as all of the Crew layouts look so beautiful! I started out trying to scrap these photos of my MIL's first wedding and just couldn't come up with anything I liked, then it evolved into this ;) Maybe eventually I'll figure out how I want to actually scrap them LOL

Kristen & Kevin’s Wedding Day

Yesterday (Sunday) was Kristen and Kevin’s wedding day. The morning dawned overcast and a bit on the chilly side, but as we got closer to the time for the ceremony in the Garden of the Gods the sun burned the clouds and mist away. By 10A it was a beautiful day for a wedding. They had decided to have the ceremony standing on a rocky ledge at the southern end of the park, and after arriving there I could certainly see why they chose it. The mountain foothills spread out below us and Pikes Peak and the other mountains of the front range dominated the skyline next to us. It was beautiful in every way!

One of Kristen’s hobbies is belly dancing, so that is why there was a belly dancer at her reception. ;) Something I realized while I was looking through all of the pictures last night is that I really enjoy taking pictures of dancers (good thing with so many daughters who dance, huh!?! LOL). I think it is the challenge of trying to capture the movement of a dance in a still image. So, just because I think I got some neat images of the belly-dancer here are a few more :) I need to remember to ask Kristen when she gets back from her honeymoon what her name is as I didn’t catch it when she was introduced during the reception. The first dance she did she used finger cymbals.

The second dance was a scarf dance.

The fourth dance was a sword dance- very interesting to see her doing all of the movement and still have the sword stay in place wherever  she had it balanced.

The last dance was a special request of Kristen’s- the music was ‘The Dueling Banjos’ and during the first banjo’s part she would move her upper body and the second banjo’s part got her lower body moving. That was a fun one that a still picture just can’t capture the essence of- you can see how much fun it was on her face at the end though!

Kristen is getting married

My good friend Kristen finally met the right guy and is getting married in October. We celebrated the upcoming wedding with her at a bridal shower this last weekend. Her friend Sarah threw the party, and Sarah’s husband made all of the food for it. Oh my, it was all delicious- three different kinds of quiche, strawberry spinach salad, potatoes, stuffed peppers,  chicken salad croissants, chocolate cupcakes and then a chocolate fountain. yummy! There was a champagne punch too that I was told was wonderful, but I didn’t try that. I’ll just take the bride’s and several guests word for it. Beth and Carissa attended the shower with me too- their first bridal shower experience. They had a dance lesson that afternoon that had been previously scheduled and in order to do both they had to come with me. They’ve known Kristen since they were little tykes, so it was fun to bring them along.

and here is what I got Kristen: a couple of lacy things from Victoria’s Secret along with a little extra on a gift card so she could actually go get something from there she really wants as I had no idea of proper size and what-not ;) and since we’ve been scrapping buddies for a long time, I had to get her some digi-scrapping goodies too.  I made a coordinating card, CD envelope, layout with a photo of the happy couple. I printed the previews for the kits I bought for her and tucked them inside the envelope with the CD so that she could see what the kits looked like.

here are a little closer looks at the different pieces in the photo above. The scrapbook page, which I made into a quick page for her as well so that she could use it for another photo if she wanted. I only had the one photo of her and Kevin together from Thanksgiving, so that is what I used in it.
