VR-Football-Sept2012  journaling: With 3 kids in the high school band, Friday nights are often filled with the sounds of grunts, cheering, stomping, pep band music and wolf howls now. It’s often cold, and the bleachers are uncomfortable before too long, but it’s fun cheering for the football team and the band. We are VR! Go Wolves!

VR-FIRST2012_3-24-12  journaling: Dean Kamen set out to  bring the excitement of sports events to science, and I would say that he has succeeded. You can feel the emotions of the participants in the air when you walk into the Ritchie Center on FIRST regional weekend. The 2012 game was Rebound Rumble- the robots had to shoot 8 inch diameter foam basketballs into 3 levels of hoops, and cross and balance on bridges. Coopertition was taken to a new level with bonus points being awarded when robots from the 2 alliances balanced on the middle bridge together. The Cyber Wolves performance was a mixed bag this year. Essentially no practice time with the robot before Bag and Tag Day meant that all of the little glitches were found on the field during the actual matches. A third day of competition might have made all the difference in showing off what our robot was actually capable of this year.

Just documenting the kids' 'loves' and 'hates' in the food department these days.JustEatIt-Aug2011 journaling: I really don’t have a reason to complain about my kids’ eating habits. For the most part, they eat without complaint whatever is put in front of them. Each of them has their ‘loves’ and ‘hates’ though, and it can be hard to appease everyone at every meal.

VRHSrobotics_Bag&Tag-w
journaling: The club season kicks into high gear at the beginning of January when FIRST announces what the competition challenge is for the year. The kids then have 6 weeks to design and build a robot that can accomplish the designated tasks in a 2 minute and 15 second period. “Bag and Tag” day was February 22, and no work was allowed on the robot after that until they unpacked it in the pit area of the regional competition the club was attending. We celebrated the end of build season with a potluck and a robot viewing to which family members and representatives from the corporate sponsors were invited. At the end of the evening the robot was sealed in a large plastic bag in the engineering lab where it waited until the Denver regional competition weekend in April.

EasterBreakfast2011
journaling: It’s an Easter morning tradition in our church to arrive early and share breakfast with each other potluck-style. The tables are always beautifully decorated with spring and Easter decor make a pretty setting  for the plates heaped with egg casserole, breads of all varieties and fresh fruit. It’s a wonderful start to the day's celebrations of Christ’s resurrection.

Yep, still have Savannah pages that need to be done :P I finally figured out what to use for these pages on the churches we visited.  Savannah_churches-2pg
journaling: The churches of Savannah are a big part of the walking tour around the historic town. The steeples tower above the live oaks of the town squares. The first day I walked Savannah the churches were not open to the public, but we were able to go inside a few days later. The beautiful stained glass windows are pieces of art. The history and architecture of the churches are so different from the churches of the western states, much more reminiscent of the churches we saw in Europe.

Happy Easter

I hope you all had a happy Easter. Ours was pretty nice, overall. My mom had a cold the last weekend we were visiting her and evidently I picked it up before we left. It started hitting me yesterday afternoon and kept me up just about all last night with the coughing. I made it through the breakfast at church (which was delicious!) and then the service, and as soon as we got home I went to bed and napped for 4 hours. I could have slept longer, but I figured I had better get up or I would never get to bed tonight. Dinner tonight was easy as I had made most of it yesterday evening and it all just needed to be baked/reheated. I don't think DH was expecting a large meal like that since he had started looking for leftovers about the time I started working on things LOL

and the two layouts I managed to do this weekend.

Brenna_7thBirthday_4-2-10
journaling: Happy 7th Birthday Brenna! This year has been kind of different for us as far as birthday's go. We just haven't had time for the big birthday party with friends that we usually have. Instead we've had 2 small celebrations so far- one in Texas with Grandmama and the Rodeffers and one at home on her actual birthday of April 2. We will have the tea party with her friends that she wants, I'm just not sure exactly when it will be yet.

Spring break is officially over in about 10 hours, so I had better go get stuff for lunches out for the morning and head to bed. Hopefully I’ll feel a bit better tomorrow.

Latest LOs

There hasn’t been a whole lot of time for scrapping, or I just haven’t felt like it when I did have a few minutes. I started reading the Percy Jackson and the Olympians book series, and I got a bit sucked into them OK, that is a bit of an understatement- I’ll admit it :P I ended up ordering books 2-5 from Amazon (I had bought Bryce #1 at a school book fair a couple of years ago, so we already had that one), and I went through them all in about a week once they finally arrived. I must take the kids to see the movie now!

The DEA dance competition in Denver is this coming weekend, and I have to get everything together for that. We are planning a little trip over spring break too and trying to get everything ready to go for that too on top of it. I think it is going to be a crazy week! It will be nice to have this first competition behind us finally.

These are the miscellaneous LOs from the last couple of weeks.

journaling: Grandma Doris was a professional seamstress and had a magical touch with fabric and thread. She sewed all of her own clothes, as well as many of the items that her children and grandchildren wore and played with.Quilts, doilies and household items were also crafted with her hands to make home a more beautiful place. Dianne Rigdon came out with a cute kit called ‘Little Buddies’ and it has some adorable little animals in it that reminded me of all of the stuffed friends we have in our house. So, I gathered up all of Sarah’s friends, took a picture of them, and then had Sarah tell me what each of their names are. She thought the whole process was neat ;) Now I will have something to refer to if I can’t remember someone’s proper name LOL! EasterEggHunt_4-11-09 journaling: In typical Colorado Style, it was too wet to have the egg hunt outside so it was held inside the church again this year. Beth and Carissa brought their friend Alyssa for their last year of egg hunting. As usual, we ended up with lots and lots of eggs, which meant bringing home lots of easter candy. The telling of the Easter resurrection story always ends the fun.

One of the SBG designers, Phuong Ton, has announced that she will be stepping down from designing for a while. The Crew did a farewell playday today for her, and this is what I came up with for it. Sure makes me wish I had explored her kits a bit more as all of the Crew layouts look so beautiful! I started out trying to scrap these photos of my MIL's first wedding and just couldn't come up with anything I liked, then it evolved into this ;) Maybe eventually I'll figure out how I want to actually scrap them LOL

Catching Up with Layouts

I’m sitting at a Burger King while the kids enjoy the games and play area here for a while. I keep forgetting that this new computer came with Windows Live Writer and I don’t have to be on-line to work on blog posts!

This last week went by pretty quickly with the usual busyness. Bryce’s report on computers for language arts is done, and his toothpick bridge science project is completed too. Beth’s experiment is underway, and we need to give Carissa’s a try to make sure we will have a little time to do some tweaking if it doesn’t work the first time. Next week the elementary school kids only have 3 days of school for some reason. I can’t figure out why they do the schedule the way the do a lot of the time. I don’t remember having so many days off when I was a kid. Dance classes are going and the teachers are getting the recital pieces polished up as we only have a few weeks left now.

I’ve been meaning all week to get this post written, and so here it is- nothing fancy, just catching up with getting my latest layouts posted.

journaling: All the years I played in the orchestra at church growing up, I never imagined that I would someday be playing for Christian music stars like Steve Green and Michael Card. The best thing about these experiences has been feeling the wonderful sense of worship these men bring to the concerts. They aren’t there to increase their fame and fortune, but to share the gospel of Jesus Christ and to worship and praise Him through their music. it is humbling to be a part of such a mighty worship experience.

and I did this LO last week for the Digi-dares #130 challenge to scrap a layout with no photos and to use a silhouette or outline on your layout. One of those rare quirky ideas I get occasionally when I saw the challenge for the week and I had to go with it. I showed Brenna the LO and told her I made it for her since she still thinks that incident was so funny- she just laughed again, and that is what it is all about.

Melinda_BirdOnHead

journaling: July 20, 2007 I took Brenna & baby Sarah to the zoo. Brenna had lots of fun feeding the Budgies seeds on a stick. As we were getting ready to leave, a green bird landed on top of my head, and I couldn’t get a picture because my camera was around my neck. Brenna has no problem reminding me of this time & still laughs about it almost 2 years later!

Coloring Eggs, A Purple Pony Cake and Pancakes for Lunch

journaling: We finally squeezed in an egg dyeing session on Thursday night after all of the appointments for the day were done. We had a basic kit with three colors, and the kids had fun exploring mixing them to create new colors from the primary ones we started with. The girls also enjoyed adding stickers to them once they were dry.

How I spent my morning and afternoon- Brenna's birthday party is tomorrow afternoon and she chose a My Little Pony theme this year.

and I forgot I did this layout too last week since I haven't uploaded it to any galleries yet. About once a month we go to Grandmama's house for lunch. We usually have some type of pancakes, and Brenna enjoys helping make the batter. Sarah got a puzzle from downstairs and she and I worked it while we waited for the food to be ready.

The next two days are going to be very busy. Tomorrow morning there is an egg hunt at church, then Brenna's birthday party is in the afternoon at home, and Beth and Carissa have a dance rehearsal for Opening Number in the evening. I told Brenna she could come with me to watch if she was willing to spend some of the time working on her sight words and reading with me while we waited. I had tried to get her to do that this afternoon, and she and Sarah were just too hyper from all of the anticipation to make it worth anything. Sunday morning we are having breakfast at church, and then we are going to have lunch at my mom's. I hope I have the energy on Saturday evening for cooking! I'm sure photos of the party won't show up here until Sunday evening at the earliest.

On a happy note, we were thrilled to see some old neighbors again yesterday evening. They lived across the street from us for 2 years and 4 years ago the military moved them to Virginia. They have been renting the house out all these years and now they are back! Their daughter Courtney was a good friend of the twins, so we are glad they have returned. :)

Scrapdish Easter sale and egg hunt

Scrapdish is having a store-wide sale and an Easter Egg Hunt Eggstravaganza!
But instead of eggs, you'll be collecting scrap kits. 15 Designers have designed mini-kits with an Easter palette. These kits will create an awesome Easter Mega kit...if you can find them all that is! Visit the Scrapdish Forum on Friday 10th April for the first clue and you can
begin your Easter Egg Hunt!

Here's what my egg hunt kit looks like:

Each designer's kit is hidden in the description of a product in their store. There are clues to follow to each one. You can get your first clue in the Scrapdish forum here.
