March & April Scrapbook Pages

Sarah_Playdate_2-29-12  journaling: Sarah and Sophia make quite the pair, conspiring together to arrange playdates while talking on the phone after school. Finally us moms had to agree and they spent two afternoons at each others’ houses having a wonderful time playing hide-and-seek, making pizza for lunch and playing with ponies and Barbies. It’s wonderful to have a friend who lives just down the street.

I started taking a tap class this fall. It's been a challenge in a lot of ways- a good one, but still something I have had to work at. It works muscles of the mind as well as of the body We started learning choreography for a dance (no, we are not performing it at recital :P ), and this is a little motivational piece for myself to keep working at it when I get frustrated with myself. It's an old The Ventures song, No Matter What Shape, which given our varied shapes and sizes and ages in this class we thought it particularly appropriate Melinda_NoMatterYourShape  credits: at scrapbookgraphics.com: Studio Mix #19 - Glorious Visions by The Studio Girls, Tangie's Paperworn Art Styles; tap shoe stamp is my own

journaling: We received a last minute email during spring break from Mr. Freark asking for help with a project that would be used to fund robotics and NJHS clubs next year- planting and growing xeriscape friendly flowers for yards. So Elizabeth went to help and we dragged Carissa along too. Brenna, Sarah and I helped a bit later after running some errands. Many hands make light work, and we got all of the seeds planted in just two and a half hours.

journaling: Everything old is new again at some point, and soft serve yogurt is back again. There are lots more flavor and topping choices than when I was a kid, and it is self-serve. You have to be careful about how much you get because it quickly adds up! iTop It is just down the hill from our house. The kids love getting coupons for free cups of yogurt from school for good behavior because they can go crazy and get anything they want.

A week-long photo hunt challenge for the grand opening of the One Story Down scrapbook site inspired this page. 5 photo prompts were posted each day- one word that you could interpret any way you wanted photographically. I was usually inspired by 3 or 4 of the prompts each day. It was like a mini P365 on fast-forward.April2012PhotoHunt credits:

Sarah_KindergartenFun_2-14-  journaling: Kindergarten is Fun ...especially when it is Valentine’s Day and there is a party during the last hour of school. The kids are always excited to have parents and siblings come for a visit in the classroom. They danced and sang their songs they had learned about love for everyone. They had decorated Valentine bags and gave gave each of their classmates one in return. Sarah was so excited to get her own this year and had fun pulling them out one by one and reading them. Some of them even had treats attached. The kids had written special letters to Mrs. Rogers during a week she was gone and when she read each one she had them come up and stand by her so that she could say thank you right then.

Snapshot 2012 - #8

Snapshot 2012 #8 is about your clothing style. Not much to say on this one really. Fashion isn’t something I worry too much about right now. For the sake of the project completeness I made myself scrap about it anyway ;)

Snapshot2012-08Style
journaling: It’s a sad fact, but true, that my style definitely leans to the comfortable side of things now. It’s not really important to me that I be wearing the latest fashions. I look at what is in the stores on the occasions that I do go shopping and I just don’t like what is available most of the time. It’s too low cut or too tight in some spot or I don’t like the colors or patterns or it is just generally unflattering or uncomfortable in some fashion. So, I gravitate towards jeans and comfortably loose shirts most days. I spend a lot of time sitting at the computer or in the car or standing in the kitchen and comfort is key in my book. Most of my shirts are some shade of blue, purple or red and the darker tones of those families predominate. For more formal occasions, the ‘little black dress’ makes an appearance from closet. I can’t say that I’m terribly fond of dresses any more- maybe in part because I find heels so uncomfortable now. Maybe I just need to invest in some better shoes? Most days, my purple Converse are just fine for the activities that I need to do.

Dance Quest 2012 – The Dragon and the Pearl

Another year of Dance Quest ballet productions has come and gone. This was our third year participating. I once again worked on costumes and photography for the show, and I also added doing the music editing this year. We were at a different theater this year. It was a little smaller and it had a projection system for the stage backdrop. I really liked the projected images as the backdrops. They really added a lot to the show, I think.

The fabulous art poster drawn by Sabrina Collins for the show.

SANY1203-colorcorrected-4x3

The poster that I designed for the wall at TDC. Justin thought it was really cool that his picture was used on the poster. Brenna is an ‘old hat’ at that by now so it wasn’t quite as novel for her, but she still grinned when her friends asked if that was really her.DQ2012-poster-web credits:

Something that was pretty cool was that I modified the poster image just a bit and it was put on the sheet cake that was eaten at the cast party after the last performance.

The Daughters of Gaia also played Rose’s Friends in the beginning of the show. Brenna was Rose and a Star, Elizabeth and Carissa were Moonbeam Shadows, and Sarah was one of Rose’s Friends and a Daughter of Gaia.

Now I just have to find the time to start tackling the storybook for the show since people keep asking me about that. With all that is going on, it just might be June before I get to it.

Snapshot 2012 #7

Snapshot 2012 #7 is about the things you like to read. The kids and I find ourselves reading lots of dystopian book series lately, the most popular of which is The Hunger Games at the moment. We anxiously awaited the release of the  movie and added the soundtrack to our music collection the morning it came out. We’ve found quite a few other series that are just as good.

journaling: It's not new, but it is the latest trend in young adult fiction these days- dystopia. Some catastrophic world disaster has taken place and a new world order has begun. Something's not right though, and it is up to the youth of the day to stand up to the corrupt government and make changes- hopefully for the betterment of everyone. A few have been reading assignments in school to provoke thought and discussion, while others are ones that we have read just for fun. Current loves and favorites- The Hunger Games Trilogy by Suzanne Collins, Divergent Trilogy by Veronica Roth, Tunnels by Roderick Gordon & Brian Williams, and The Maze Runner Trilogy by James Dashner.
