Hybrid Mini Book for Brenna

This marks the last project I will be doing for Prima. They are cutting back, and their hybrid division is one of the places that isn’t making them as much money. I think there is a market for hybrid, but maybe the scrapbooking world as a whole just needs more time to absorb the digital aspect. I do believe it will only become more prevalent as time goes on and digital everything takes over. I know I fought going digital for a couple of years before I finally gave in and embraced it as the way I was going to do things most of the time. Being able to go back to my paper goods through hybrid is just wonderful and a way to get back to the tactile side of scrapbooking.

I made Brenna a little book to help her remember some of the things she learned during her kindergarten year. She struggled a bit with several things during the year, but she worked hard and in the end she found success.

Portrait cards

I wanted a pretty way to send some relatives their copies of our annual Easter portraits. The photos are held on the mats with a corner slot punch (remember those?! I had to think for a minute or two of where to look for it LOL) so that they can be removed from the card easily once the cards are received.

A Savannah LO - in paper!

I don't go to the craft stores that often any more since I started doing the majority of my scrapping on the computer, but sometimes there is something I just can't pass up! Michaels has started carrying some seasonal lines made by Prima recently in their new Designer Corner. One of them is called 'First Blush' and is designed by Doris Castle and Dianne Rigdon- two fabulous designers individually and they are great as a team too!
I went and picked up a few things from Michaels and made this page of Mark and I with photos from our weekend getaway to Savannah in the fall. I love all of the textures, and the shabby heritage papers with a touch of embossing and glitter. They are a perfect remembrance of that special trip.

Manteca- Prima hybrid LO

I got a new box of goodies from Prima a couple of weeks ago and played with some of the new stuff on this layout for their April Build-A-Page Template. I spent lots and lots of time carefully cutting out all of the swirls with scissors and a craft knife. I highly recommend the Fiskars fingertip craft knife, it really did make all of this go faster than it would have otherwise. These are a couple of pictures from one of the dances that a group of older girls at the dance center do entitled 'Manteca' which is a modern lyrical jazz style dance. The expressions on their faces in these poses just crack me up. When I showed their teacher and a few of them the pictures on Tuesday they all thought they were great fun.

I printed the Melody flourishes directly onto the Life Patterns paper, and then cut them out with scissors and an Xacto knife before attaching the crystal swirls.

Flower ATC Trio

One of the projects I did for Prima at the end of February was an ATC trio with a flower theme. I was in an ATC mood I guess after I made the tea one for Anna. These are featured on the Prima blog today for the Hybrid Wednesday post.

Prima Coupon project

I grabbed the beginnings of this project back at the start of the month, intending to print and use the coupons as they were. But, like so many things I'd like to do there just wasn't enough time and it didn't get done before Valentine's day. Never mind that though, with the wonders of digiscrapping I just made an alteration to the cover coupon and voila! it's not just a V-day project anymore. My tips for altering the printable are posted over at the Prima blog for this project too.

I made two different envelopes from the Melody digital papers to hold the coupons. Here's a pic of the backsides of them.

Prima Hybrid Valentines

I don't think I've mentioned here that Prima asked me to stay on their Design Team for 2009. I was very excited to get that email and I've been having fun playing with a new box of product they sent. Our first hybrid assignment was to make something with the digital files from the IOD Parcel Post Hybrid album kit. Here's what I came up with- the red and green lend themselves quite nicely to Valentine's day cards and projects even though it was originally designed as a Christmas kit:

PrimaHybrid News

It has been a while, but PrimaHybrid is finally getting up and running again! They have reopened the doors and are selling hybrid scrapping kits that will knock your socks off. I got to play with one of them- Sweet December- and I created this layout with one of my favorite portraits from Sarah's newborn photo session.
and here are a couple of close-ups of the page. I crafted the butterflies from the beautiful chartreuse lace flowers that are included in the kit.

There is going to be a monthly hybrid sketch challenge, and this card I made for Megan (close yours eyes if you are reading this, Megan!) from the kit is inspired by this month's sketch by Di Hickman.

If you like hyrbid crafting, go check it out!

Prima Projects

So, now that summer CHA is over I can finally show you some of the things I made months ago with Dianne Rigdon's and Doris Castle's new paper collections.
These first projects are done with Dianne Rigdon's "Fancy Christmas" line.

Doris Castle's "Little Boo" line. I made some frames to house a couple of Halloween photos. That's Megan and Aaron all dressed up one Halloween in the black one ;) The picture didn't have a date on it that I could find when I scanned it, but I figure it is from the early 90s somewhere.
This LO of Sarah in her little ducky costume last Halloween was in the Prima catalog.

and if you look really closely at this picture from the Prima booth at CHA, you can find my frames and box sitting on the display table.

and I finally got to play with some of the new 'Retail Friendly Hybrid' CD products that are available and coordinate with each of the new paper lines that came out too. They almost make it too easy (at least for me anyway, I think I like to try and make things more complicated than they actually are sometimes LOL)- add your pictures to the predesigned quick page, and maybe some wordart from the CD, then add some text to the predesigned chipboard shapes and anywhere on your page that you want. Print it all out, stick the chipboard together and put it on the page to embellish. There are spots on a lot of the QPs that tell you what products to add and where. My one wish for lines like this in the future is a set of chipboard shapes that are a bit smaller so that they work more easily with the 8x8 size that I print at. The shapes at their current size are too large for that format, in my opinion at least.

This first one uses the Space Boy collection, and I scrapped some of the pictures from our stop at the Omniplex Science Center in OKCity on vacation. They have a new exhibit called "Destination Space"
journaling: The Destination Space exhibit had examples of actual space craft, equipment and space suits from different world space missions. The most fun exhibit was the one showing how things of different sizes fall in both air and vacuum.

and with that, I'm off to make some muffins for dinner. It is Beth and Carissa's birthday today and we are dragging out the festivites for a while. Last night I made 58 frosted cupcakes for them to take to school today to share with their classes. Carissa chose what we will have for dinner tonight. Beth chose what we will have for dinner tomorrow when Grandmama comes over for the 'family celebration'- that's when they will get their gifts from us, the cousins and Grandmama. We are putting off the party with friends until the 22nd as they want to have a sleepover and that is the night that the new Cheetah Girls movie is being shown on the Disney Channel.
