Prima Projects

So, now that summer CHA is over I can finally show you some of the things I made months ago with Dianne Rigdon's and Doris Castle's new paper collections.
These first projects are done with Dianne Rigdon's "Fancy Christmas" line.

Doris Castle's "Little Boo" line. I made some frames to house a couple of Halloween photos. That's Megan and Aaron all dressed up one Halloween in the black one ;) The picture didn't have a date on it that I could find when I scanned it, but I figure it is from the early 90s somewhere.
This LO of Sarah in her little ducky costume last Halloween was in the Prima catalog.

and if you look really closely at this picture from the Prima booth at CHA, you can find my frames and box sitting on the display table.

and I finally got to play with some of the new 'Retail Friendly Hybrid' CD products that are available and coordinate with each of the new paper lines that came out too. They almost make it too easy (at least for me anyway, I think I like to try and make things more complicated than they actually are sometimes LOL)- add your pictures to the predesigned quick page, and maybe some wordart from the CD, then add some text to the predesigned chipboard shapes and anywhere on your page that you want. Print it all out, stick the chipboard together and put it on the page to embellish. There are spots on a lot of the QPs that tell you what products to add and where. My one wish for lines like this in the future is a set of chipboard shapes that are a bit smaller so that they work more easily with the 8x8 size that I print at. The shapes at their current size are too large for that format, in my opinion at least.

This first one uses the Space Boy collection, and I scrapped some of the pictures from our stop at the Omniplex Science Center in OKCity on vacation. They have a new exhibit called "Destination Space"
journaling: The Destination Space exhibit had examples of actual space craft, equipment and space suits from different world space missions. The most fun exhibit was the one showing how things of different sizes fall in both air and vacuum.

and this is from the Youth collection by Meredith Fenwick. Bryce standing next to his locker at HMS the day we picked up his 7th grade schedule.

and with that, I'm off to make some muffins for dinner. It is Beth and Carissa's birthday today and we are dragging out the festivites for a while. Last night I made 58 frosted cupcakes for them to take to school today to share with their classes. Carissa chose what we will have for dinner tonight. Beth chose what we will have for dinner tomorrow when Grandmama comes over for the 'family celebration'- that's when they will get their gifts from us, the cousins and Grandmama. We are putting off the party with friends until the 22nd as they want to have a sleepover and that is the night that the new Cheetah Girls movie is being shown on the Disney Channel.

Happy 4th of July!

oh my, time sure does slip by quickly these days. It's hard to believe that June is over already. We are looking towards our vacation that starts in a little over a week. We are headed to Chicago for a week, where I am looking forward immensely to hanging out with my bud Robin for a couple of days at CHA as well as meeting up with other digi gals I've known for years too. After we are done in Chicago we are heading to St. Louis and then Oklahoma to visit Dale and my grandparents for a few days before heading home. It will be a quick week then to get the kids ready to start school the first week of August, and just like that summer will be over for us.

The twins started their summer dance class two weeks ago. They are taking the Petite Tap Prep class again this summer and will be trying out for the Petite Tap ensemble group after the summer class is over.

It seems like I don't get nearly as much done these days, but here are a couple of things I finished up this week.
An envelope travel album to take on vacation with us so that I have a place to store all of the miscellaneous memborabilia I inevitably accumulate on a trip:

paper credits: Reverie paper (#602246) from the Caliope Collection, Elysee ribbon (#519520) and flower (#120023) by Prima, Marketing, Inc.; Textured Trio ribbon by Michaels; letter stickers by Creative Memories

If you want to see some of the inside pages, you can check out the album in my gallery.

and a couple of LOs with new kits by Chere Kaye that came out at the beginning of the week:
journaling: Sarah, we had such a busy day this day in Cripple Creek and you were just a doll the whole day- having fun and showing off your sweet smile to everyone you met.

credits: Ka-Boom by Chere Kaye and Marcie Reckinger at FunkyPlaygroundDesigns.com; fonts: CK Becky

and last night I put together this layout with photos from one of last year's July 4th celebrations that we attended down in Pueblo at their Riverwalk park:
journaling: It was a good old-fashioned family party at the Pueblo Riverwalk on June 30, 2007. The lawn and walkways were crowded with people enjoying the oldies, but goodies, music and each other’s company. The kids thought we were just a bit silly singing along to the songs. Sarah entertained herself by pushing the stroller around in circles within the little space we had staked out for ourselves. We were a little too close to the river for comfort and had to constantly remind them to stay away from the edge so they wouldn’t fall in. We had a spectacular view of the fireworks when they went off finally though as we were sitting right in front of them.

We were planning to head to Pueblo this evening for their beach party concert and fireworks, but it has been raining off and on since about 7- along with thunder and lightning- so we opted to stay home and save our fireworks outing for the one at Memorial Park tomorrow. The weather reports say tomorrow should be fine firework viewing.

I got to spend this afternoon with a good friend I haven't seen in a while and enjoyed that time a lot. We sit in the kitchen and do our crafty things together while the kids play together. As I was packing up my stuff to come home, I ran the little toe on my left foot into the corner of the tray she keeps the dog food and water bowls on- ouch! I'm not totally sure what I did to it, but it hurts like the dickens, is swelling up and has a rather large purple bruise on it for such a small appendage. Another foot annoyance, darn it. Once again, I've done this before and know there is nothing to do but wait it out. It's not as bad as the times I know I fractured it, so hopefully it is just a bad bruise and will heal quickly. I don't think I will be wearing shoes with toes for a few days :P

Oh, and my 20th High School reunion is coming up August 1st. I won't be able to make it again (read that first paragragh up top), so I volunteered to help put together a section for the DVD they are planning to put together to send out to people after the reunion. I will be working on the section with current photographs of my classmates and their families along with info on what they are doing. I'll probably regret the time commitment eventually, but I am looking forward to peeking a tiny bit into everyone's lives and seeing where they are now. I find it amazing how I'm not surprised by the career choices some make, while others are doing things I never would have imagined for them. I don't think anyone would have pegged me as a stay at home mom with 5 kids who did 'artsy-craftsy' things at a professional level, so I just might surprise a few of them too ;)
I got my first set of pictures from an old classmate via email last night and I've spent most of today coming up with some things to work with that will hopefully make the whole project go a bit more quickly when crunch time arrives. And that reminds me I need to go dig out my Dover books from the storage area before the girls head off to bed!

Have a wonderful holiday weekend everyone!

Answer about basket template for Kay

I don't have the capability with blogger to email people back directly when they leave a comment unless I already know their email addy. I've sent Kay a PM about her question, but people don't always know they have a message at forums, so I will just post my answer to her here too in the hope that she sees it.

To get a pattern paper to show up on the scalloped edge after you fold it over, you have to have printed a second pattern on the second side of the paper. I use double-sided photo paper, but you could just use white cardstock too. Print your designed basket on one side of the paper, then pick a coordinating paper to go with it and flip the paper over and run it through the printer again so that it is on the 'backside' of your basket. When you fold it all together then that coordinating paper is on the inside of the basket and will show on the folded down part of the scallop edge.
Make sense?
I've got a few more pictures with my instructions in my thread in the tutorial forum over at PH, if that helps any.

Since you've already printed the baskets at this point, you can decorate the edge with stamps, clear tape, stickers, or whatever you feel like.

Please contact me directly (check the TOU file you got with the template for the addy) if you still need help figuring this out.

Snow, St.Patrick's Day, Easter and more baskets

whew! lots of things going on. Monday school was cancelled because of snow. We actually had a lot of snow over the weekend with a couple of snowstorms blowing through. These pics are from Friday, but I could just have easily taken them Monday. The snow all melted from the first storm before we were hit again. Crazy Colorado weather! it's supposed to be in the 60s today.

Sunday evening's performance of the Last Supper went well. Over 900 people attended despite the snowy and icy weather, and many people were touched. It felt good to play one song correctly that I hadn't been able to during practices- the first practice I didn't have it transposed correctly and the second one I just plain missed all of my cues (so I still had no idea if I had finally gotten the transposition right). It all came together correctly when it counted though. I had practice for the Easter morning service last night- lots of great music to play. The Easter Song (hear the bells ringing, they're singing that you can be born again.....) and the Hallelujah chorus from the Messiah are really fun to play, as well as lots of traditional hymns.

Monday was St. Patricks day and we did up the green at our house in part to entertain and occupy the kids during their day off from school. Lots of green and Irish food to enjoy! I spent most of the day in the kitchen cooking and cleaning up, but everyone enjoyed it all. Sarah gobbled down the corned beef I gave her and wanted more, which is rare for her since it was something new and things don't usually go so well if it is the first time she has had it.
journaling: School was cancelled because of the snow- lucky for the kids (they thought so anyway). So, I decided to spoil and entertain them a bit with lots of green food. I made green shamrock shaped pancakes for lunch, green shamrock spritz cookies for snack time, and of course the traditional corned beef, cabbage and potatoes and Irish soda bread for dinner. Even Sarah enjoyed everything we ate during our ‘Lucky Day!’

We are getting geared up to sing with my mom's church again. They are doing a big production of the Living Last Supper on Palm Sunday evening as well as lots of music during the Easter morning services.

Mark was asked to sing with some of the men at our church service Easter morning, so it looks like we'll be going in different directions for a while that day. I'm the only oboeist this time, so I have to be there. I'll be playing in the orchestra and my mom and DH singing in the choir. I need to dig out the pictures of Mark in one of these productions- back in Pullman our church there did this two years and Judy managed to sweet-talk him into it both times. He still isn't sure why he agreed to it the second time around since he knew exactly what he was getting himself into that time. It is a very moving production and worth seeing during the Easter season if you ever get the chance.

Oh, and we found out tonight that the big concert in 2009 is going to be with Steve Green, it will be similar to how the Michael Card concert went. Wow, I never thought I would get to play with such big music names!

Prima Hybrid Frame project

So, my first PrimaHyrbid tutorial is finally posted. It's been done for a long time, I just didn't have the go-ahead to post it until yesterday. I created a 3D hybrid frame project from a digital LO of the last picture I have of my Dad and I did.

and here is the finished frame.

If you are interested in the tutorial, you can check it out HERE.

The big kids are going to be coming through the door in a few minutes, and I need to get the library books and videos ready to go. They all started CSAP testing today- it was the first of 6 days over the next two weeks- so I'm sure they are going to be ready to relax tonight. I know the twins won't have any homework, and I hope that Bryce doesn't have too much as the stress of the testing really does take a mental toll on them. Sarah is the latest victim of the cold bug. Poor kiddo has had her nose wiped about every 15 minutes the last couple of days and has the typical croaky voice. So, once again we had to miss bible study this morning. Those of us who have had it are all still coughing to some degree. We had a hint of spring Saturday here- I still have to get all of the pretty pictures I took when we went out for a walk with my mom off the camera. I'm certainly done with winter and ready to get over all of the illness.

Kristy Valshan CHA projects

Jen and Jeanine are headed off to CA today for the CHA trade show, and since they posted pictures of some of the projects I made for their booth on their blog yesterday I figure it is safe to put them up on my own blog now ;)

I started out with projects for their holiday collection- Yuletide. I had fun shopping all of the Christmas clearance sales at the beginning of January and finding great deals on Christmas crafty things to dressup for them.

a wooden letter word banner.
a paper mache ornamentthe other side of the ornament. This set looks gorgeous with silver glitter, so I used lots! :)

a couple of petal boxes with Fancy Free
and a composition journal with Autumn Beauty
the back:
Since they are wanting to license their designs to paper companies that manufacture actual paper scrapbooking products, I spent extra time turning the digital elements into chipboard shapes and such. That always reminds me why I love to digiscrap now, nothing is quite as boring as hand-cutting title letters, especially when it is difficult because they are glued to chipboard :P

After I got all of those done and shipped off, Jen requested some gift bags of varying sizes. I designed some templates so that I could print the pieces for them I needed on my little printer.
Bags with Fancy Free
a couple with a new collection called Renewal:
and more Yuletide:
and since I just couldn't resist, I hand glittered all of the black swirls on both bags and their tags. I used a whole bottle of glitter glue on the all of the things I made with Yuletide, with over half of it going on the gift bags. It was worth the time as they are gorgeous, these pics just don't do the bags justice.
The medium size Yuletide bag with the KV logo on the tag is going to be in some central display for the design and licensing exhibitors.

All in all, I think everything turned out nicely. I can't wait to see pictures of the booth when it is done this evening and see how everything looks all together. I hope the show is successful for you, Jen and Jeanine!

I need to get a bunch of templates finished up this weekend- digicraft for February at RAKscraps is next Tuesday and I'd like to get the gift bag templates up in my store early next week.
OK, I'm off to get showered and then put the garbage out before truck goes by for the week- oh the glamorous life of a SAHM! Have a great weekend everyone!
