journaling: It was the second week off from dance classes and keeping everyone occupied was proving to be a challenge at times. Crafts, games, guard and hiking ended up filling our days & before we knew it the week was over.

journaling: The hiking trip started as a trip that went through the trail 7 bridges and then was supposed to end on Mt. Kineo, but.....we took a few detours (okay, a lot of detours). In the end, we completed 7 bridges, went to the beaver dam by Mt. Tuckaway, and then completed our round trip by climbing Mt. Buckhorn.

journaling: For almost a year we had the proverbial elephant in the room at our house - aka depression. I knew there was something wrong, but getting others to see it as a thing that could be helped took so much longer than it should have. It won’t go away on it’s own. It’s OK to admit you need help. You don’t realize how bad you felt until you don’t feel like that any more. You can be happy again. You are not alone.

journaling: No matter how many times we have been to the zoo, it is still a treat to feed the giraffes. They now get lettuce leaves most of the time, with only crackers occasionally. It doesn’t seem to phase the giraffes, they love the lettuce leaves just as much as they love rye crackers.

I started this page years ago and never finished it because I was totally unhappy with how it looked. So, when I pulled it up to work on it I found that there was no information on the layer names about the papers and elements I had first used like I have in my psd files now. So, my credits are actually a little scanty on this one.

Artist LO

Just scrapping with a few of the goodies I bought over the weekend during all of the NSD sales. I love how this one came out- I’ve been trying to find something to scrap the pictures of Daddy at work that I had.

journaling: A graphic artist by trade, Richard worked in several fields including newspaper & magazine printing, academics and for a public television & radio station. Line pencil drawings was one of his favorite styles, but he dabbled in all types of art mediums over the years, always wanting to try something new.

a few layouts

Things are super busy right now, and I'm exhausted trying to keep up with it all. I'm always glad when we get to the end of April and all of the Easter programs and birthday parties and school projects are done. I have managed a few layouts this week. Here they are.


Saxon has a new collab coming out on Sunday with Tracey Monet at scrapbook-elements that was perfect for getting a couple more pages about Daddy done. It is huge and filled with all sorts of perfect embellishments for pages about the handyman in your life or constructions projects.

journaling: There are very few pictures of Richard working at church. He was always in the background, taking care of things dependably and quietly- working on the building the years we spent on the building program, designing sets posters and programs, setting up for Sunday School and ringing the bell, stuffing bulletins into hymnals. He was a silent servant, happy to help in any way he could and content to know that things were done well even if he got no credit for them.

journaling: Richard was rarely the one speaking in front of the church. He worked in the background, taking care of the building usually. Heritage had installed a new multi-media projection system not too long before he passed on and was in need of a good ladder to reach it for occasional maintenance. We all agreed that it would be an appropriate use of his memorial fund money to purchase the ladder for the church. It is something he might very well have gone out and bought for them himself. I’m sure he would have been one of the ones using it on a regular basis to change lightbulbs and clean the gutters of leaves. The ladder is pictured on the right the morning that they dedicated it in his memory. Jan. 14, 2007

Since I can't get to most of my pictures easily right now, I decided to scrap a couple more portraits of Daddy as those are on my big EHD along with most of my scrap kits at the moment. I still have a lot of pictures left to scrap of his life, so it felt good to get a couple more done tonight.

Two new LOs

I actually got two layouts done today- haven't done that in a long time LOL I pulled some photos out of Daddy I've been meaning to scrap for a long time now and just decided to do it today.

journaling: Richard was always trying out new art techniques. I found these black & white photos in a box in the storage room with things from the years he was in the National Guard, though there was no date on the photo box there were placed in.

Prima Hybrid Frame project

So, my first PrimaHyrbid tutorial is finally posted. It's been done for a long time, I just didn't have the go-ahead to post it until yesterday. I created a 3D hybrid frame project from a digital LO of the last picture I have of my Dad and I did.

The big kids are going to be coming through the door in a few minutes, and I need to get the library books and videos ready to go. They all started CSAP testing today- it was the first of 6 days over the next two weeks- so I'm sure they are going to be ready to relax tonight. I know the twins won't have any homework, and I hope that Bryce doesn't have too much as the stress of the testing really does take a mental toll on them. Sarah is the latest victim of the cold bug. Poor kiddo has had her nose wiped about every 15 minutes the last couple of days and has the typical croaky voice. So, once again we had to miss bible study this morning. Those of us who have had it are all still coughing to some degree. We had a hint of spring Saturday here- I still have to get all of the pretty pictures I took when we went out for a walk with my mom off the camera. I'm certainly done with winter and ready to get over all of the illness.

Christmas and 2007 Wrap Up

Wow, hard to believe that 2007 is nearly over. The kids are waiting anxiously for this evening as we have been invited to a birthday and new year's eve party at our friends and neighbors house. Their youngest turned one yesterday, so it is his first birthday we are celebrating before the new year's bash begins. Beth is already counting down the minutes until we can leave, and I'm sure it will start all over again once we get to the party and we are officially supposed to be counting down to midnight and the new year ;) I don't know if we will be staying until the end- their house is only down the street, so one of use needs to bring someone home early we can do that easily.

Christmas was nice. We went to the Christmas Eve service at our church. It is always music filled and the last song we enjoy by candle-light. There isn't any nursery during this service, so we have all of the kids with us. Sarah did pretty well, but was more than ready to go the last 15 minutes and just wanted to run up and down the aisle the last 10 minutes. After we got home we had a late supper and then the kids opened their new PJs and went to bed (except for Sarah of course). She finally fell asleep around 11:30 so that 'Santa' could finally put out the new presents.


The kids got up as soon as they were told they could, which meant 6:30 on the dot (I'm sure the older kids had their alarm clocks set). My mom had been warned that would happen, so she got up early too and made her way back to our house by 7A. We had breakfast, Breakfast casserole, Christmas Bread and hot chocolate, and then dived into the stockings and presents. Sarah's favorite gifts were from my mom- the toy cell phone that flips open and the Dora bathtub playset. Brenna loves her Island Princess Swinging Tika and Ro dolls, the twins got oodles of Littlest Pet Shop things, and Bryce got some new Bionicle Lego sets. The older kids have spent most of today on the computer upstairs playing the new games they got. They were all totally spoiled this year as I had quite a few things stashed away and I figured I had just better give out before they all outgrew them.We finally got the Little Leaps game console thing for Sarah working today- evidently I am 'technically challenged' these days and just missed the fact that it had to plugged into the little base part for it to work properly during the set up process (and we won't get into the fact that I couldn't get any of my mom's VCRs hooked up to her TVs in the most basic way so that the little kiddos could watch a show when we were unpacking things earlier this year :-P ). So, Brenna and Sarah have finally gotten to enjoy that toy a little today. My big presents this year were Photoshop Elements 6 and Adobe Lightroom software. I was very surprised by the Lightroom software as it carries the hefty pricetag of most Adobe products. I also got a book on photography from my sister and my husband actually eventured into Archivers and bought me a scrapbook idea book, Simple Scrapbooks "the Scrapbooker's Almanac" by Elizabeth Dillow. My mom gave me money to spend as my big gift. I bought Scott Kelby's book on Lightroom with a little of it, and will probably renew my subscription to the ScrapperGuide magazine as I have gotten a lot of my subscription this last year. And there is still more left over to use for something I have yet to decide on as well.

I've not been terribly inspired in the scrapping department lately- I think having everyone home and being loud and bickering a lot of the time is keeping my creativity to a minimum. I've done a few things, most of which I can't show off quite yet. I did manage the New PJs LO I showed a bit earlier in this post and I'll post a couple more below. I haven't gotten them uploaded to any galleries yet, and I'm too lazy to copy and paste all of the credits here at the moment. I'll have to come back and put that info later.

I played with all of the photos in Lightroom on this one- fun stuff and I love how I was able to get all of the orange tones out of the photos so that they worked better with the pink tones in the kit.

and here's one with the KV William collection:I got to pop into Archiver's yesterday afternoon after lunch and I got to see the two album sets they have there in person- very cool to see stuff by people I know in the big scrapbook store! Unfortunately, I had 3 of the kids with me and that kept me from totally savoring being there. It just reminded of why I don't go there very often and prefer shopping online these days. It didn't stop me from buying a few things though either LOL!

We have one more week of everyone on vacation and then Mark goes back to work and the kids go back to school- I can hardly wait! ;)

Whew! and I haven't even gotten to the hybrid projects I've finished either. I think that will wait for another time. I've got some more scrapping to do tonight. Trying to squeeze in some extra designing time for Scrapdish has put me in a time crunch to get all of my CT scrapping finished up on schedule this month.

Richard's Favorite Things

Some things you just don't have pictures of when it comes to remembering someone. I started a series of pages about Daddy to record a few of the things about him that made him, him. I don't have photos of these things most of the time, but they were part of who he was and what I remember. I've got two pages done so far, and have started a third. The way I've laid them out means they take a bit more time than usual though since each section is like it's own mini-layout. If anyone thinks of other things that I can include on these pages, please let me know!

I've got lots of other layouts to post here, but it's not going to happen tonight. Mark wants to go to the Balloon Classic liftoff early in the morning. I told him I was staying home and sleeping LOL It looks like the weather is going to be nice all weekend, so I can go to the liftoff on
Monday morning ;) I'm still not feeling 100% and am looking forward to a few more hours of sleep.

Today was my Dad's birthday, and with father's day tomorrow too, and my parents anniversary on the 12th I've been thinking about and missing him a lot. So, I scrapped a couple of pages for my book with some pictures of him this morning and afternoon. I've been wanting to scrap the birthday picture all week, but just couldn't do it. After a false start last night and losing what I had done to an internet attack of some sort (blocked by my firewall, but I still had to reboot and lost everything), I pressed on today and got it done. I also did this one with some of our wedding photos and this gorgeous kit I couldn't resist buying when it was on sale earlier this week by Sylvie Sausan.

and this is an old LO, but I really love the photo. The picture was taken just a couple of weeks after Daddy was diagnosed with cancer in 2005.
For quite a few years now I've been making my Dad pecan pie instead of cake for his birthday. Usually it was whenever Momma and Daddy came for their summer visit, so it wasn't necessarily actually on his birthday. But, we always knew what it was for when I did make it. Here's the family recipe I use; this recipe is from Doris, my Dad's mom, and it is a classic pecan pie. Yum! I think I will make one in a couple of weeks when Momma is here visiting again to purchase her house here. Only one more week of Stargate SG-1 on SciFi. I'm going to be really sad when it's over. Friday nights on SciFi are about the only shows left that I actually watch regularly, so for one of them to end makes me very sad. I've been watching it for years and it is one of my favorite shows. Daddy actually got me started on it since SG-1 originally aired on Showtime and we didn't get any premium channels (still don't). He would record them for Megan and I and then send us the videotapes to watch. Stargate Atlantis will still be on, but I don't like it as well. I actually find the Wraith stories pretty darn creepy; last night's show had a Wraith 'theme' to it and I listened to it more than watched it. Big, ugly, nasty bug creatures jumping out and sneaking up on you from poorly lit tunnels- yuck, yuck, and yuck! Thankfully they haven't had too many episodes featuring the Wraith this season. I guess it will do once SG-1 is over, but it won't be the same.

Sarah has been running a fever and had diahrrea since yesterday, and threw up in her bed last night too. I don't know if she caught what Brenna had earlier in the week or it if is something different. I don't think she and I will be going to church in the morning. Once the medicine kicks in and brings her fever down she acts fairly normal- she is singing along with Dora and the pirates right now since she feels better- but when the medicine wears off the fever comes back.

Well, it seems I was elected to go out and get pizza for dinner tonight, and I need to get some more milk and ibuprofen for Sarah too. So, I'll sign off for now. Happy Birthday, Daddy- we miss you!
