This weekend’s LOs

A little bit of this and that this weekend on scrapping themes, I just worked on whatever I needed to get to.

journaling: It’s not uncommon for Sarah to give me big cheesey smiles, being deliberately silly, a time or two before she gives me a pretty one. That’s OK, as I love them all! 2009

Bryce has a big project going on in language arts class right now, and since our school has an IB curriculum it involves doing community service. One of the ladies in our church is working on making quilts to send to the mission in Haiti that we help support, so I hooked Bryce up with her for an afternoon of helping work on quilts. This was totally new to him, but he had a good time and learned a few new sewing skills. Now we just have to get the actual written part of the project all done.

Bryce_QuiltsForHaiti_2-2-10
journaling: It was an assignment for Language Arts based on the book they were reading “The Pigman” by Paul Zindel- spend 3 hours helping a senior citizen. Joyce Stubbe was looking for help with making quilts to send to Haiti, so Bryce went to help her after school one day. He learned new skills in sewing- cutting, ironing and pinning and had a good time with the Stubbes while doing it.

Since Brenna did her penguin project a couple of weeks ago, I was in a penguin scrapping mood and so I pulled out the pictures of the penguins at the St. Louis zoo from our 2008 summer vacation.

StLouisZoo-Penguins journaling: We made a quick trip to the zoo before meeting Dale just to see the penguin exhibit. It is a beautiful exhibit that is open and lets you see the birds up very close with no glass between you to get in the way. We nicknamed this guy "Mr. Splashy” as he liked to sneak up on people and splash them with the cold, fishy smelling water- it must be funny to penguins!

Beth, Carissa and Brenna are participating in an original ballet production at our dance studio that was written by the studio owner. I was asked to help with decorating the ticket booth and I put this LO together this weekend while trying to put my ideas for the ticket booth down 'on paper.' Now, I just have to figure out how to translate the whole thing into something I can create with bulletin board and mat papers and fairy printouts LOL!

A little look into the past with this one, as I had a beautiful new valentine kit to work with from Saxon. I pulled up photos of Megan and I together over the years and chose ones about a decade apart. Sometimes the photos during the 80s make me want to throw them in a box and forget they existed- what in the world were the fashion people thinking? :P LOL

Feeling Better Finally

This weekend was a very busy one, or at least it seems like it went by really quickly! LOL

I think I can finally say that I'm over the flu or cold, or whatever it was. Yesterday was the first day where I wasn't coughing much, and I didn't have to take medication to get to that state. I had a decent amount of energy all day too. In between running the kids around to where they needed to go last week, I sat and scrapped and tried not to cough on my computer too much.

Saturday we went to my mom's house in the morning to get her trailer covered for the winter and do some other little things around the house she needed help with. The kids had fun playing with the new Rusty dog. We'd only seen him once before since she got him. Then, it was home to get the oldest 3 girls ready to go to the Christmas dress rehearsal for dance groups. I had fun taking pictures of lots of different groups and soloists and had tons of photos to wade through in Lightroom after we got home.

A big snow storm moved in Saturday afternoon and with freezing temps overnight and all day Sunday, we just decided to play hookie from church and not try to rush out the door to get there on the slippery roads. We had a nice, relaxing day puttering around the house and taking care of some of the tasks that needed doing- practicing instruments, working on the twins' Egypt projects, baking holiday cookies, laundry, etc. Of course I had grand visions of how much I was going to get done that didn't materialize, but that is OK. The cake balls I made took most of the day. That probably had something to do with me starting out with a fresh pumpkin that had to be roasted and pureed, pumpkin cake baked, crumbled and mixed with frosting, chilled and then the whole dipping in candy bark part which was a huge mess. I didn't even finish dipping them all because I was tired of it and my bark was not cooperating any longer. I'll finish them up another day LOL My hat goes off to the Bakerella lady who makes such beautiful ones all of the time, because mine don't look anything like hers-at least they don't have to be pretty to taste good :P Mark spent a lot of his day trying to get some nasty program off of the computer the kids use and trying to figure out why the Norton anti-virus program wasn't working, which allowed the rather large list of nasties on there in the first place.

Scrapbookgraphics has a new template designer, and I just love her templates! I have a hard time doing white space LOs and her fabulous templates make it a lot easier for me. Check out Crystal’s shop if you are looking for help with white space or just something new to try!

Sarah_JustYou&Me
journaling: It’s just you and me now during the day, Sarah. I have to say that it is different with just one child at home; it is certainly a lot quieter! You are lots of fun and I enjoy spending time with just you, exploring new and old things and places. I know I tend to get a little focused on getting things done that I need to do sometimes, but you remind me that it is important to enjoy these fleeting moments as they won’t last forever. Love you, Sarah!

Last Week’s Layouts

StaleyKids_FallColors_9-26-

I did this next one for the Studio Lorie playday on the SBG blog last Monday. Lorie’s kits always remind me of storybooks come to life, so that is what I scrapped- Brenna surrounded by books that are literally coming to life all around her. Yes, it took me a full day to get this one done, but some times you just can’t deny the pictures in your head ;)

and now that it is October, Halloween Kits are starting to make their appearance in the stores. Saxon came out with this awesome collab at scrapbook-elements this week called Googly Moogly. I had a bit of fun doing some hybrid crafting with it- a spooky coffin box I designed around the coffin lid element, and a couple of fun spiral popup cards.

Brenna is in First Grade

It’s hard to believe that she is in first grade and going to school all day! The long days were difficult the first week, but I think she is getting used to it- at least the second week went better than the first.

and she has had her first big homework assignment- decorating a doll to look like her and then picking out three things that she is good at that she can share with her classmates on Wednesday next week. She said she was good at ballet, doing puzzles, and making her own breakfast.

Brenna_FirstGradeDoll_8-13-

journaling: Brenna’s first homework assignment of 1st Grade was to decorate the doll to look just like her. She got a little bit of help from Mama with the hair, dress and shoes, but she did all of the coloring and pasting by herself.

I enjoyed putting this layout together for Beth- I don't think I will tell her what all of the things are, she will just have to discover them on her own as she reads the books.
journaling: Beth began reading Twilight on June 1 and spent all day absorbed in the book. I have to admit to being glad that someone else in the family finds it as fascinating as I did. I am looking forward to discussing the storyline with her as she makes her way through the series this summer.

a few layouts

Things are super busy right now, and I'm exhausted trying to keep up with it all. I'm always glad when we get to the end of April and all of the Easter programs and birthday parties and school projects are done. I have managed a few layouts this week. Here they are.

Saxon has a new collab coming out on Sunday with Tracey Monet at scrapbook-elements that was perfect for getting a couple more pages about Daddy done. It is huge and filled with all sorts of perfect embellishments for pages about the handyman in your life or constructions projects.
journaling: There are very few pictures of Richard working at church. He was always in the background, taking care of things dependably and quietly- working on the building the years we spent on the building program, designing sets posters and programs, setting up for Sunday School and ringing the bell, stuffing bulletins into hymnals. He was a silent servant, happy to help in any way he could and content to know that things were done well even if he got no credit for them.
credits: Joe Six Pack by Saxon Holt and Tracey Monette at scrapbook-elements.com (coming April 12); fonts: Zapf Chancery LT

journaling: Richard was rarely the one speaking in front of the church. He worked in the background, taking care of the building usually. Heritage had installed a new multi-media projection system not too long before he passed on and was in need of a good ladder to reach it for occasional maintenance. We all agreed that it would be an appropriate use of his memorial fund money to purchase the ladder for the church. It is something he might very well have gone out and bought for them himself. I’m sure he would have been one of the ones using it on a regular basis to change lightbulbs and clean the gutters of leaves. The ladder is pictured on the right the morning that they dedicated it in his memory. Jan. 14, 2007

Disney pages for Megan and Family

Scrapping sure goes faster when I don' t have hundreds of photos to sift through LOL! I did all but one of these yesterday. Some of the "On Vacation" kits are available now at scrapbook-elments.com, while some will be released throughout the rest of the month. They were all formerly available at the SophiaSarducci shop- a few have been renamed with the move to the new store though the kits are the same.
